Honoring Dr. Debra Saunders-White 

11th Chancellor of North Carolina Central University


On November 26, North Carolina Central lost its first  permanent female Chancellor.  Dr. Debra-Saunders-White took over the leadership of the university in June, 2013 Noted for always encouraging students to strive for "Eagle Excellence," Saunders-White was beloved by students, staff and colleagues alike.

In her 3 years at the helm  NCCU expanded its partnerships, including dual degree programs with North Carolina State University. Saunders-White also got the funding for the construction of a new business school and a new student center. Others successes include the university being named HBCU of the Year by HBCU Digest and selected as one of the top 3 public HBCUs by US New & World Report.

After taking a leave of absence in August to focus on her battle with kidney cancer, students and members of the university showed their support by pledging to be #SaundersStrong
