Too often stories are told about HBCU alumni failing to give back to their alma mater. While it is certainly true that all HBCUs could use more donations, many alumni heed to call and contribute. This fall alumni of North Carolina A&T were especially generous. On Giving Tuesday it was announced that Willie A. Deese, a 1977 graduate, donated $1million. The retired pharmaceutical executive dedicated $850thousand of that amount towards scholarships and the remainder towards Alzheimer's research. Mr. Deese has been a longtime benefactor of A&T, having perviously donated more than $3million.
In addition to the generous donation of Mr. Deese, alumni of the nursing program came together to support current nursing students. In honor of the university's 125th anniversary, more than 125 nurses pledged $125. The amount raised was able to provide scholarships for all of the current students in nursing program, covering 100% of their need.
Now that's true Aggie Pride!
